Overview of the Caucus/Precinct Meetings

Caucus as defined in Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary “is a closed meeting of a group of persons belonging to the same political party or faction usually to select candidates or decide on policy.”

Throughout Nevada on February 4, 2012 registered Republicans will have an opportunity to convene/discuss and vote on their Republican presidential preference.  Times vary from county to county.  Douglas will hold its Caucus/precinct meetings from Noon until 3:00 P.M.  Attendees will be asked for photo ID and we’ll cross match names with those on the Clerk’s voter lists. The Caucuses will be held at different precinct sites throughout Douglas County.  We’ll discuss and vote first. Then precinct meetings begin after ballots have been cast.

The precinct meeting is where the Republican Party begins, (called The Grassroots).   We will elect delegates to the county convention which is scheduled for March 31st and nominate members to the Douglas County Republican Central Committee.

At the county convention we will elect the members to the DCRCC and delegates to the Nevada Republican Convention scheduled to be held in Sparks on May 4-6, 2012.

The DCRCC meets 10 times a year and is charged with electing the officers of the DCRCC (Chairman, Valley Vice Chair, Lake Vice Chair, Recording and Corresponding Secretaries and Treasurer.) These officers were elected for a two year term in March 2011 and with the other members of the executive committee are charged with running the day to day affairs of the party.

The DCRCC is also charged with electing representatives to the Nevada Republican Central Committee.  The NRCC is charged with electing the officers of the state party, Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  The national committeeman and committeewoman are elected to four year terms at the state convention.  The chair of the party along with the national committeeman and committeewoman are Nevada’s representatives to the Republican National Committee (RNC).
